Tech Week - Director's Notes #1

MONDAY REHEARSAL 11/5

Shout outs to Gary Case, Kelly McEuen, Jessica Farley and Bryan Fairbanks for doing the nitty gritty last night. The back of house/board stuff isn't easy. It's doubly hard moving into a space and hitting the ground running! I appreciate these folks so much...tell them you're glad they're there! They are making you look and sound great! (Keep them happy!)

OVERALL CAST NOTES:

  • Listen to Tony & stage parents! Period.
  • Absolutely NO talking ever in the wings or hallway behind the stage.
  • Be patient and be flexible. We are getting things worked out on the tech end...just hang in there!
  • You must stay in your GREEN ROOM until you're called for a cue. I cannot emphasis this enough. No one should be hunting for you backstage.
  • GREEN ROOM chatter should be at a minimum. Bring something to keep you occupied and quiet. Parents - Please enforce this each night.
  • HAIR/MAKEUP - Try your best to have your hair/makeup done tonight. Folks are snapping pics and we want to look good! Refer to this note on how your character should look.
  • SINGING - More folks need to be singing in wings on all ensemble numbers - especially Here on Who and It's Possible.

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
    • Cat/Jojo - see me today about the VERY top of the show.
    • Jungle/Whos - always access the top platform from steps in the center. Do not try to stretch and step up from the floor - no one needs to get hurt! IF your mark is the top platform, enter from behind then walk up the steps in the center.
    • Jungle - We need to reposition you on the platforms. I could not see the folks on the top platform behind BGs & Wicks.
    • Jungle - Late entrance on "Horton Hears a Who"....what happened? It was awkward on stage.
    • Wicks - Stay on your platform. You were blocking the entrance of the TV during Biggest Blame Fool last night. Be aware that items are coming in from the SL wing.
    • Cadets/Grinch - Good job sneaking in but Cadets need to be in tighter formation to hide you a bit better. Sam - Did you have enough time to change? Santa belt was missing. Not a big deal but looked odd.
    • Schmitz/Cadets - Can you enter from the USR door and march around the back of the platform "On the brink of war..."?
    • Jojo - Stay in wings until Mayor sings "It's nine, son..rise and shine son" then come out.
    • Cadets - Can you tuck in shirts and make sure hair is pulled back?
    • Schmitz - Green Eggs & Ham was a little late. Cadets need to clear stage earlier.
    • Jojo - Fall asleep on platform after "See you in Solla Sollew" instead of coming downstage to meet Cat.
    • Wicks - Enter around both sides of platform and meet downstage for Monkey Around. (Sam - Do you have Converse/sneakers?)
    • Thing 2/Cat - Let's work on that helicopter bit tonight. Propeller needs to twirl if it can.
    • Whos - Late entrance for Chasing the Whos. Where were they?
    • Things/Cat/Mayzie/Horton - Need to work out climbing up and down ladder tonight. Mayzie needs help coming down - send Things. They will help Horton up.
    • Sour Kangaroo/Young Kangaroo - Start Act 2 on SL bottom platform instead of floor. Then, walk down for song.
    PROP/ENTRANCE NOTES:
    • Thing 1 (Angelina) needs to enter from behind purple curtain to deliver clover.
    • Can TV come in from between purple curtain & wing curtain? Coming from rear was awkward last night (I could see the back of the tv).
    • Things need to clear the bathtub after It's Possible.
    • Need 2 brochures - How to Raise a Child & Circus
    • Need pencil & sword for Mr. Mayor ready/preset
    • Vlad's goggles & wings should be preset for Donovan
    • Need to work clover field on/off again - smoother
    • Cat was missing squirt guns - they were there last night. Things do not use them as Hunters.
    • Let's work the benches/etc again tonight. They should be struck after Yopp for Finale.
    • Need step stool for Yertle
    • Tree needs to strike after the Yopp - it was hiding all the Whos.
